Hand painted Byzantin icon Mother of God-Panagia- water gilding,polished gold

Description

This is a 100% hand painted byzantine icon in a traditional byzantine way, using powder colors of stones and a mixture of egg yolk and vinegar
(egg tempera)
.
The icon is painted on
lime wood panel (with two wooden rainforcing braces in the back and raised border)
covered with chalk primer (gesso), specially treated for timeless duration.
Following the byzantine art traditions, every icon is layered with a linen cloth, glued and hand sanded to a smooth finish.
The background is covered with
22,5Karat gold leaf.
Water Gilding technique (polished gold), using Armenian bolo. Double layer of gold.
Golden lines on the garments (using gold leaf).
With a varnish layer ensuring waterproofing.
Each and every icon that I sell is absolutely unique.
The icon is signed and dated on the back side.
This icon is made to order and needs 40 days to be completed.
